Fitness Equipment is broken down into three areas:
- Body Building
- Aerobics
- Stretching

Body Building
For Body Building Training, there are two types of fitness equipment: Free Weights and
the Weight Resistance Machines.
Barbells are free weights and are two sets of even weights connected
by an iron bar. On some barbells, you can vary the weights at each end, as long as both ends are even. Fixed
weight barbells already have the weights established.
Dumbbells are individual weights. They consist of a short rod
connecting two equal weights. Dumbbells are great for hand, shoulder, and chest exercises. They come in
increments of 5 lbs. from 5 lbs. to 100 lbs.
Weight plates are the circular weights used in barbell exercises.
They range from 2.5 lbs. to 100 lbs. Many stores sell plastic weight plates, but, for durability, use the
weight plates made of iron.
The EZ Curl Bar is a barbell with angled hand placements at each end.
This bar is great for working the muscles at different angles and reduces the stress that a straight barbell
can do on the wrists.
The Triceps Bar is similar to the EZ Curl Bar, as you can work the
muscles from different angles. This is an oval shaped bar, that has two parallel hand placements.
Benches include the flat, incline or decline benches. Flat benches
are parallel to the floor. Incline or decline benches slope (at an angle) either way or toward the floor.
Some benches are adjustable, and they are used for dumbbell exercises. Other benches include:
- Hyper Extension Bench works the lower back, hamstring and glute
muscles.
- Preacher Bench is for the biceps.
The Body Building Machines have been designed to strengthen your body
muscles and they include, but not limited to:
- Leg Press Machines for the legs and lower back.
- Leg Extension Machines for the legs and to improve knee strength.
- Leg Curl Machines for the hamstrings.

Aerobic Training
Aerobic Training uses different fitness equipment. At the gym, you will have
treadmills, stationary bicycles, rowing machines, etc. These machines have different programs for endurance
training and to lose weight. Just choose your favorite.
With running and walking, the only special equipment that is required is the shoes.
Make sure that you get the right footwear for your training. For your athletic shoes, they need to be
one-half size larger than your dress shoes. In training and in hot weather, your feet expand and swell. Your
feet will need this extra shoe size.
Stretching
For stretching, you may need an exercise mat to lie down on. You can also purchase
other fitness equipment like a stability ball and exercise bands.

In Summary
Fitness Equipment can be purchased for your training. This is just a brief overview to get you
started. It is exciting!
